Our Journey to Net Zero

At Wellshill Civils & Plant, sustainability is central to how we work. As a specialist civil engineering contractor operating across the UK, we are committed to achieving Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050 and embedding environmental responsibility into every part of our business.

We support the UK Government’s Net Zero Strategy and are actively reducing emissions across our operations. This includes tackling direct fuel use, office energy consumption, and supply chain activities. We carry out full emissions audits and align our reporting with recognised standards such as SECR, PAS 2080, and ISO 14001 to ensure transparency and accountability.

To reach our goal, we’re improving operational efficiency by introducing electric and hybrid plant and vehicles, tracking fuel use, and optimising site logistics. Our offices run on renewable electricity, and we’ve upgraded lighting and heating to energy-efficient systems. We’re also working closely with our suppliers to choose low-carbon materials and incorporate smarter design methods that reduce embodied carbon.

Waste reduction and resource management are equally important. We’re increasing reuse and recycling on every site, adopting circular economy principles, and monitoring waste streams to measure performance. Internally, a dedicated Carbon Champion leads our sustainability efforts, with ongoing staff training to make carbon awareness part of our company culture.

We recognise that collaboration is key. By working with clients, suppliers, and industry partners, we’re helping to accelerate decarbonisation across the wider construction sector. Through innovation, efficiency, and transparency, Wellshill Civils & Plant is building a sustainable future - one project at a time.
